Hey everyone. A little inactivity on the site as we recover from our trip to the Freakshow Film Festival, but I assure all we are finally back into full swing. No rest for the relativity mild, I suppose.
Jason and I are in the midst of reviewing every film we screened at the festival (many of which have yet to be picked up, which is only a matter of time for some of them, as the event was chock-full of great flicks).
George Clark's "Battle of the Bone" won the Audience Choice award, and was extremely well-deserving of it. It is a rarity in cinema, but you will know more soon enough.
The extremely well-made "Shadowland" by Wyatt Weed took two awards. One for cinematography (which was stunning) and is something that he assures us that his current cut will look "five times better" than the version we saw. I can't imagine it, but the cat knows his stuff, and I will take him at his word. Caitlin McIntosh also won for best actress... Also very, very well deserved.
The short "Cam 2 Cam" won best picture for its category, and it's good. But it was an award that I personally thought should have gone to Josh Darling's "Death is a Very Long Time" which was my favorite thing that I saw at the festival.
And finally, the sci-fi horror flick "Alien Raiders" (directed by Ben Rock) took home the honors for best picture and best actor (Carlos Bernard). Again a very, very good picture.
Jason and I had the opportunity to hang out with many of these people as well as the lovely producer of "Text," Jennifer Maskrey, and it was just an amazing experience all around. The level of talent and passion on display there was absolutely phenomenal. I will be updating my blog daily with my own personal experiences with all of these people...
A quick and final thank you to festival director Robert Massetti who orchestrated a fantastic experience. Good luck with your film, sir... And we hope to be around again in 2009.
