First of all I'd like to thank Wesley Dugle, who's been kind enough to post his reviews to Critical-Film.com, two reviews so far, Terminator Salvation, and X-Men Origins: Wolverine. It's great for me because it gives me a little more time to rework the site from head to toe (a pretty big project, that's probably going to take me a few more weeks to finish). It's necessary though, the site, when all is said and done, should be more visitor friendly, search engine friendly, and allow for more easi…

Before I get to the review, I'd first like to apologize to anyone who received a wall post from Elnora Guy (or something similar to that), this person signed up to the site and posted on everyone's wall linking to an adult webcam site, so as a result I banned them from the network, and all their posts were deleted. So, that's why you all received post notifications and there was nothing there. Sorry about that. Anyway, on to the review.

First of all I'd like to congratulate Wyatt Weed and Pirate Pictures on their theatrical release of "Shadowland". It's a limited release, but a release nonetheless. I'm sure it will lead to more. I'd also like to thank Wyatt for emailing me a pic of the "Shadowland" page taken from the theater schedule at which "Shadowland is playing. It's significant to me because, well a quote from my review is at the bottom left of the page. Check it out below...

First of all I'd like to extend a few thanks to some friends of Critical-Film.com.
First, George Clarke (director of "Battle of the Bone"), who we met at last year's Freakshow Film Festival. George has been busy as hell working on a number of projects, and promoting the first annual Yellow Fever International Film Festival in Northern Ireland this August. George recently did an
article for Culture Northern Ireland and…

I took a few minutes and updated the graphics on the site, as you can see, a new header image, as well as new images for users with no pictures... little stuff like that.
You Likey?

Since I haven't been working, my sleep schedule has gone to shit.
It's 2:28 AM right now, and I've probably got at least a movie in me, and possibly time to write a review afterward. The sad thing is, tomorrow I'll be exhausted by 8:00PM, probably be asleep by 9:00, awake again around midnight, and once again be up until 5ish... I haven't had a solid nights sleep in at least a week. It's been rough, and everything has been suffering.
Anyway... not much of a post. Just wanted to let everyone kn…

First, "Slumdog Millionaire"...
I don't feel there's any reason to write a full review of "Slumdog Millionaire", as everyone knows it's good. It won Best Picture and Director at this years Oscars, as well as a number of technical awards. I will say that, after seeing the film twice now, it is deserving of every single Oscar it was awarded. The film is perfect, and it has crept it's way into my personal favorite five films. Not only that, but I will also say that I feel it is the best film of th…

In my review of Mark Colegrove’s “Pleasures of the Damned”, I warned potential viewers that many would not share my particular sense of humour, and as such I can’t recommend the film to all audiences. Well, the same goes for its pseudo-sequel “Isle of the Damned”, a film that exceeds its predecessor in terms of sheer quality and effectiveness, yet also displays a lot of the same detrimental characteristics that hindered the overall quality of “Pleasures…”
That being said, I did three things bef…

Van Damme’s films have always catered to a certain mentality of film-goer. His films have never carried much of a plot, focusing solely on the action, be it through martial arts (“Bloodsport”; “Kickboxer”) or a mix of traditional action, focusing as much on gunplay as physical action (“Hard Target”). Action movies aren’t made this way anymore… They try to incorporate more of a plot than the films are worth, and as a result the level of action suffers, as does the film overall.
As Hollywood has…

Considering the basic plot behind “Taken” has been recycled at least a thousand times since the 1985 Schwarzenegger film “Commando”, it is a pleasant surprise that Pierre Morel’s film, entertains it’s audience as well as it does. The film is completely enthralling, and quite simply and incredible movie-going experience.
As mentioned, the idea of a man in a race against time, attempting to exacting revenge on the sons-of-bitches that kidnapped his daughter, with the intention of drugging her up…

I figure we've got all this space, we may as well use it, right?
I have been less than fantastic will updating the site lately, posting no more than a review a week. That's going to change, as I'm sitting in front of my computer at this very moment, penning a review for the excellent "JCVD", as well as the Norwegian slasher film, "Fritt vilt", or "Cold Prey".
That being said, I'm starting to put myself into more foreign films, mostly of the horror variety, and less theatrical reviews. The reas…

Firstly, as this film was released in both 3D and 2D formats, I feel obligated to explain that this review is based solely on the 3D picture… And yes I would rate the film much differently if I had seen the 2D version of the same film.
With that out of the way, I feel the need to (very briefly) explain a little of the history behind “My Bloody Valentine”, as many people are unaware that it is in fact a remake of an early 80’s Canadian horror film. While the original doesn’t stand as a classic,…

I am writing my review for “Five Across the Eyes” quite drastically, after the fact. It’s been nearly a month since I watched Greg Swinson & Ryan Thiessen’s film, but immediately after my viewing, I attempted to pen a review, yet found I had nothing noteworthy to say about it. Based on the impact the film had on some other viewers, and the resultant anticipation I had going in, I expected something brilliant. Yet the film failed to live up to that manufactured hype.
However, I came across t…

So, it has been a while since my last blog post. I understand this...
But, I am still here. Trying to get things organized and professional so we can submit Critical-Film.com for inclusion on RottenTomatoes.com. That would be some achievement for us... but we'll see what happens.
Anywho, Scott and I are planning a Critical-Film.com top 10 of 2008, so you can expect to see that shortly, as well as numerous reviews that I have yet to post... so stay tuned.

So, we've been back for two weeks, and Critical-Film.com is already experiencing some serious issues.
When accessed from a search engine link, any page on Critical-Film.com, redirects to a spyware driven site for a product called Antivirus 2009. Visitors should not be affected, if they are using direct URL's to access our pages. However this is hindering our traffic quite substantially, so I will be attempting to resolve the problem tonight. It seems to be a new problem within the last week or…

So, we've been back in Canada for just over a week now. And I suppose it's back to get back into the heavy swing of things. We posted Scott's review for "Battle of the Bone" a few days ago, and I was starting to feel bad that I hadn't brought anything new to Critical-Film since we've been back.
So, tonight you can expect to see my review of "I Know How Many Runs You Scored Last Summer", as well as Scott's reviews of "Text" and the Canadian film "Nobody".
Things are starting to come together af…

Well... we're finally back home. Unfortunately we had a hard time finding our way to an internet connection that worked, so we really couldn't post much in the way of updates or blog posts.
We had a fantastic time at Freakshow this year. So good, in fact, that we've committed ourselves to going again next year. It was quite a bit different than I was expecting, in the sense that we were originally incredibly excited to see some of the big celebrities, but ended up enjoying ourselves quite a bit…

For some bizarre reason, I was enticed to read what Paris Hilton's Five favorite films are. (I don't know, perhaps I wanted to look, and maybe have a laugh at her expense, when movies like "Beverly Hills Chihuahua", or perhaps the Hilton-starring, "House of Wax" appeared on the list.) But no... Two of my personal favorite movies, are also two of her favorite five films. For those interested, those films are Edward Scissorhands, and Moulin Rouge.
I think I may have nothing left to offer this sit…

With everything that's happening in the coming months, and the amount of exposure Critical-Film.com is going to receive, I've decided to dive head first into the re-writes for Scott and my first independent project, "Four Letter Word".
The website is already in existence, but is essentially nothing but a background picture right now. So look to
fourlettermovie.com for any and all updates related to "Four Le…
