Films I Wouldn't Have Paid to See... But Saw Anyway

This originally started by way of a review by Josh Darling (Friend of Critical-Film.com and film maker). His review of "Underworld 3" will be posted shortly, and obviously, given the subject of this particular forum, he didn't think very highly of it, coming up with all sorts of negative comments, and even likening it to the career of Miley Cyrus (Yeah, well you'll just have to wait and read the review to find that one out...)

Anyway, I'm sure there's a number of suggestions out there, as people always seem to be disappointed in one film or another. So, what movie have you seen, recently or not, that you wouldn't have paid money to.

Or, even worse, were infuriated because you did pay money, and felt you'd personally handed money over to someone to, in effect, make you stupider...

Most recently, I was dragged to see "The Love Guru" and while I wasn't really expecting much, I got much less than I even expected... My poor buddy Colton would never hear the end of it... Actually, scratch the 'poor', he deserves every bit of my wrath, the Bastard.

Josh's review of Underworld 3, which fits comfortably in this forum, is available to be read here.

Da vinci Code, Wolf Creek, Man... like everything with Jim Carey I don't think I ever paid for one of his comedies EVER but I've been foreced to sit threw them.

I am so sorry about the love guru, I'd ask if you're okay but that is hard one to deal with, I wont get near anything with Mike Myers stink on it.

So, Adam Snadler, JAck Black, Jim Carey. and Mike Myers what is the difference between there jokes isn't all "Make a face and fart" so the audiance KNOWS when to laugh. I don't mean to sound bitter, but I am.

I don't 100% agree with you, as far as the comedians go. I was a huge fan of Ace Ventura when it came out. I don't know if it's just the fact that I have that childhood appreciation for it, but I still enjoy it. I can't stand Jack Black as a leading actor, he was much better as a supporting artist, and his movies were at least tolerable. I'll take "High Fidelity" over "School of Rock", any day. And again, I prefer Adam Sandler as a serious actor. "Punch Drunk Love" was a great film, I thought, and far better than any of his comedies.

Will Ferrell is another comedian I dislike. Not because he doesn't have the potential to be funny, because he does make me laugh from time to time, but because, like Adam Sandler, and Jack Black, in his comedies, he always plays the exact same character... It gets old quick.

I once paid money to watch "Urban Legends"...wow. I'm still kicking myself for that one. But I was on a blind date, and that's what she wanted to see. I don't know what was harder to watch that night...

Oh...and then there was "Wild Wild West". Will Smith owes me $15. But I was making out during the last 20 minutes...so at least I "got" something.

I'm pretty sure I paid a lower price to see Martin Lawrence in "Black Knight"...but that one was okay. I know for a FACT I didn't watch most of that. (wink! wink!)

Urban Legends THAT is a rought ride, and I kind have a bigger issues with "soft core" horror then failed block busters. With Wild Wild West you at least kind of sort of knew what you'd be getting into, but when a film pretends to be a horror film that is far worse.

A good tip off that film is going to suck is Robert Englund, SOME of the nightmare movies are good, and "V" was a great series from the 80's be he was more supporting with that, but seriously I think he's a tip off to crap, Just look at he movie Hatchet. I Think Gunnar Hanson is the same way... Aside from Chain Saw (Massace not Sally) that is...

I'm sure I've just pissed off some people that are like super into going to cons. Sorry folks but you do have to stop lieing to yourselves.

First of all... I paid money to see "Urban Legends 2"... WAY worse than the first one. Opening weekend, and I think there was five people in the theater (including my posse of 3). And yes, while I agree that Robert Englund is less than consistent, he will always be 'the' Freddy Krueger... the man's an icon. Gunnar Hansen, not so much.

Oh, yeah and before I forget... Eff You, Josh... I liked "Hatchet." (And when I say Eff you, I mean it in the nicest way possible so as not to hurt your feelings.)

Okay, I'll give hatchet THIS it should have just stated to being a comedy and never tried to be a comedy and then a "horror comedy" it's kind of funny cause all the speacail effects people love it cause the whole things was done with practicals, I laughed at the movie for the frist half but it's like it just died somewhere in the middle. And then end was just, well it's killed al the stuff I liked aboutthe first half of the film.

It was like meeting a really nice charismatic, beautiful girl, you have an amazing date and then at the end of the night she tell you she's a nazi and it just kills the date.

I just Saw Gunnar is a quality film called "chain saw Sally" well not realy... well I'll put to you this way, Gunnar was in it and I did see the film...

But I'm sorry, not to use a bad "pun" but I'd realy like burry Hatchet.

P.S. Bily Bob Thonton is in talks to be the next Freddy Krugar.

Yeah, I heard that...and that could go one of two ways:

1) Billy Bob is a legitimate prick, and I'd be scared to run into him in a dark alley, knifey fingers or not. He might be able to pull this off...and actually, could take it to a new level.

or

2) Completely botches it, and ruins everyything that Englund ever put into the character.

We'll see.

As much as it would have been 'interesting' to see Thornton as Freddy Krueger... I'm pretty sure they went with Jackie Earl Haley (Rorschach in 'Watchmen') Which I think is as good a choice as any. When you see him clean shaven, you can definitely see that he looks the part. And to give credit where credit is due... He's a pretty fine actor as well. So, I'm looking forward to seeing how he handles the part. Though Robert Englund will always be 'Freddy Krueger' to us "Nightmare" fanboys.

Other than Haley though, I sure am not looking forward to another shitty update of one of my favorite horror films, by another shitty music video director.

Bosh like Ronny Yu is a video director, but he is Shitty, I hear they are soon to kil evil dead, I'm not supprised Sam Rami NEEDS more money after spider man... Or does he?

I agree that thorton is scarey, he also kind of reminds me of deliverance, that'd be a great remake, they could get Jack Black to be the fat guy. I say only because I kind of hate Jack Black and it's be great to see his squeel like a pig even if it is fake.
